Support Girl Scout - Diamonds and Help the Environment by Recycling Your old, unused Electronic Equipment
Cell phones and
inkjet cartridges can be dropped off at your regional office for recycling. For
larger items or if you prefer to send cell phones from home you can visit The
Recycling Guy website athttp://www.therecyclingguy.com. Here
you can identify the product you want to donate, learn its donation value and
print a label to send the item directly to a recycling center.
The Council will receive
the credit for your donation either way.
The following Environmental facts tell the story on
why we all need to recycle.
CELL PHONE RECYCLING
DID YOU KNOW?
THE AVERAGE AMERICAN
CELL PHONE USER OWNS 3 OR MORE CELL PHONES.
THE AVERAGE LIFE SPAN
OF A CELL PHONE IS 18 MONTHS
130 MILLION
CELL PHONES WILL BECOME OBSOLETE OR DISCARDED THIS YEAR ALONE
AN ESTIMATED 75%
OF OBSOLETE CELL PHONES ARE STOCKPILED IN DRAWERS BY PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT
TO DO WITH THEM
CELL PHONES CONTAIN
MANY TOXIC MATERIALS SUCH AS ARSENIC.COPPER, ZINC AND BROMINATED FLAME
RETARDANTS WHICH WOULD FILTER INTO THE AIR AND GROUNDWATER SUPPLY IF DISPOSED
OF IN LANDFILLS
SURVEYS SUGGEST THAT 90%
OF AMERICANS WOULD RECYCLE THEIR USED CELL PHONE IF IT WAS CONVENIENT
